Been traveling a lot lately. Vienna, Tucson, and now Las Vegas (and this after L.A. and Memphis last month). Mostly I've been seeing the inside of hotels, but I did get the chance to spend a day wandering around Vienna. Beautiful city. Great city for talking photos. And taking photos made me miss shooting something. But, with all there is to do, there's just not much time to shooting anything.

I've revised the script for Pop! Culture: The Future of America™ and if you are interested you can check it out. I'm sure there will be more revisions as time goes on. This is the film I'd like to make next. You can read about the story if you like.

In some ways it probably should have been the film to make before DSR. It's a comedy about spirituality vs. consumerism. A much easier sell. But I didn't figure I could get money to direct it myself if I didn't have something showing that I could direct. Hence I made DSR first.

Now the joy is trying to get into a festival, so we have a better chance at picking up a distributor, so we have a better chance of finding money for the next film. But, we've been rejected by eight festivals so far, and as I've written here before, I' starting to wonder if this film is festival friendly enough. It's possible we won't get into any festivals. We'll see. The plan at the moment is to wait a bit and see how things go in the next few months. If it's a string of rejections, then I suspect the only option at that point will be to try to have a screening for distributors, or wait until the IFFM and screen it there.

Either way, in the meantime I have decided to send the film on DVD to various people whose work (writing, film, music, whatever) I admire. It was just too frustrating to spend all this time working on the film and know that the people I really want to see it, might never get to because we may not pick up distribution. So, I've just tossed a pile of DVDs in the mail and hopefully people will watch and enjoy the film. We'll see.

Whatever happens, I desperately need to write something. I've been working on this film so long that it's been ages since I've written anything new. And hopefully by next week I'll know what that new thing will be.
