Not much to blog about this week. No real news about the film. I've trimmed two more minutes from the running time. It now clocks in at 2 hours 14 minutes. I took a look at the potential space for a showing, but it wasn't going to be big enough. So, I've decided that for the meantime I'll rely on sending everyone copies on DVD. I'd love to have a screening, but until I can afford a decent space, and until there is a really good reason to blow the money, the DVDs are the way to go. Basically I'm sending copies to anyone who is interested. So, if you are reading this and want a copy, let me know. The plan is to get the film into as many hands as possible in the hopes that some of them will be helping hands. Came across and very interesting article on the blog of science fiction writer Jerry Pournell. It deals with Fourth Generation Warfare and the nature of insurgencies, or more directly, what we can expect from our occupation in Iraq in the coming years. Here's the link. Writing of science fiction writers, one of my favorite series of novels is the Chtorr series by David Gerrold. He has a blog up this week about the nature of leadership that is really very good. Without critiquing anyone he manages to explain what the problem is with the leadership of not just this country, but nearly every major institution in the world. Damn good stuff. No new thoughts on things from me. Been too busy. Well, not so busy that I didn't have time this last weekend to watch the extended versions of all three Lord of the Rings films back to back. Made a big pot of chili on Saturday and watched the epic for 11 hours 23 minutes. Actually we had to save the last two hours for Sunday, but it was a hell of a lot of fun (and the chili was damn tasty if I do say so myself). Made me long to tell a story on an epic scale. And speaking of trilogies, I'm looking forward to watching the new Matrix collection with the commentaries by Ken Wilber and Cornel West. The Wachowski brother's written introduction touched a very significant chord with me. Part of the genesis of the Matrix was their attempt to answer the question of why ideas films seemed to have little and action and action films seemed to have few ideas. This question, my own desire to deal with ideas in films, my love of action films, and having just watched the entire Lord of the Ring epic in nearly a single sitting, has left me with a strong desire to create something that can successfully bridge the gap between stories of ideas and stories of action. I am particularly curious to see how well the idea of spiritual transformation can be woven into a story of action. I've tried this before. The result was a screenplay called The Day the Sky Fell (which the curious can find in the scripts section of The Chrysalis Age website). I have a new idea. One that seems like it will be a novel for the Harry Potter crowd and then a metamedia site long before it's a film, but at least it's something keep me dreaming. |
